About Us
Our company was founded in February of 2009, during an icy winter in Chicago. After years of environmental education and fun in our own backyard digging up dirt, and playing with worms we decided to move forward with our vision of what urban earth care should look like in a large metropolis. Roots & Shoots Organic Gardening began as a company dedicated to growing food for homeowners. With that mission and a few customers we were up and running for the spring and summer season.
During that time we entered the City of Chicago’s Business Plan Competition and among hundreds of applications to our surprise we were voted favorite new business of 2009. Since then we have expanded our services from edible gardens to all things outdoors to include light landscaping, and yard maintenance.
So who are we? We are the Gillespies a family of devout environmental junkies who just so happen to live in one of the coolest cities in North America. Both of our families come from the south and have been living in the Chicago metro area for 4 generations. We love Chicago and the green in it!
